Advent 2018 – Day Twenty-One – Sing
Today’s song is Sing by the Carpenters
Sing, sing a song
Make it simple to last
Your whole life long
Songs were on my mind as I selected the reading for today but rather than choose Mary’s song of Joy, which followed yesterdays passage, I have instead selected another Psalm for today. A psalm that reflects the joy of song but speaks for the whole of God’s people.
The psalm calls us to ensure that our eyes, hearts, and hopes are fixed on the right thing, God himself.
It is a psalm that helps us identify that God is for all, every person on earth can come to know God and praise him for who he is.
This psalm is a song, a prayer and a promise all contained within its short verses. It is our prayer that his Kingdom will come to all corners of the earth. It is also a challenge that through his blessing of us we will be part of the process by which his blessing reaches the ends of the earth.
As we prepare for the coming of Jesus we also prepare ourselves for this great priviledge of serving him in all areas of our lives.
Psalm 67

Full Prayer
Lord God, we join with the psalmist in praying that you may be known everywhere, from the hidden places of our own hearts right out to the very ends of the earth.
You are a God of transformation, changing us each day to be more like you. As we are changed let our songs of praise resound in our lives, let the wonder of your music of creation make the earth tremble with joy.
We praise you that your Holy Spirit reaches everywhere making all things new. Through your Spirit give us that vision of hope of your Kingdom which has a place for everyone, the lonely, the lost, the persecuted, the oppressed, those we find hard to love, those we find easy to love, those who do not know you yet and those who know you well.
At this Advent time we pray with all of our hearts and souls a prayer of praise. Lord come and bind us together as a people of loving grace. Amen.
