Lent 2023 – Day 39 – Luke 23 v 26-56
“The people stood watching.”
When we went to the Holy Land. There were a number of highlights. Mostly where I was able to sit quietly in a biblical place or in one of the many churches we visited.
One such quiet moment was in the Garden at Golgotha with the skull shaped rocks in front of me. An elderly Japanese couple and their daughter came and sat next to me. In the quiet the parents began to sing in Japanese. Although i did not understand any of the words it was to the tune of When I survey the wondrous cross. As they sang together their daughter wept openly and their eyes seemed to glisten with the tears of sorrow of that place and its memories.
On this Good Friday we come before the cross and weep ourselves for the times that we too have come and stood at the foot of the cross.
As we remember. We join with the cry of the one crucified with him as we too call out Jesus remember me.
Hymn: Singing the Faith – 287 “When I survey the wondrous cross”
1 When I survey the wondrous cross, 2 Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast 3 See from his head, his hands, his feet, |
4 His dying crimson, like a robe, 5 Were the whole realm of nature mine,
