This week the story is about how Jesus met two of his followers when they were walking along a road to a place called Emmaus. It was on the afternoon of Easter Sunday and the two men were talking about how Jesus had died and how people had said Jesus had risen from the dead. The men were not sure whether to believe this. Then Jesus met them on the road and walked along with them and explained the stories in the Old Testament about Moses and other prophets and how they showed that Jesus would come and die and rise again.

When they got to the village where they were going, the men asked Jesus to come and stay. They still didn’t know who he was but they invited him. When they had a meal Jesus took bread and broke it and gave it to them. Then they knew who Jesus was and they went and told the other disciples.

You can watch the story in a video: The road to Emmaus story (Luke 24:13-35)

Here are some questions you could think about:
– Why do you think the men did not recognise Jesus when they were walking?
– Have you ever met someone and not recognised them? Why was that?
– Why did they realise who Jesus was when he broke the bread?
– When do we break bread in church? What do we remember when we do that?

Seeing activities

Sometimes we don’t notice people or the things around us. Just like the disciples on the road we don’t see things or we don’t realise what they are. Sometimes if we stop and look or listen we can notice or understand things we didn’t below. Now I can only walk from my house I have found paths I didn’t know were there until I looked. I have noticed bluebells in new places. I’ve noticed birds singing which I didn’t hear before. This week I went on a walk and found

Dr Who’s TARDIS. Next to it was an art gallery hanging between trees with some lovely pictures.

– What is the most amazing thing you have seen on your walks this week?
