Our children gently gallop around the church during their Nativity play and we tend to wrap the journey part of th<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/map1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2283 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/map1-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"373\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/map1-300x198.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/map1-768x507.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/map1.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 373px) 100vw, 373px\" \/><\/a>e story into the birth and in some ways it gets lost.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Even in a straight line Nazareth to Bethlehem is a distance of 80 miles and although we have by tradition placed Mary on a donkey to quote a Walt Disney film &#8220;I&#8217;m not in the book&#8221;. Heavily pregnant the journey would have taken the best part of a week. It would have been a dangerous journey even without Mary&#8217;s pregnancy.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Joseph and Mary travelled because they were compelled to by a decree, sometimes we are compelled to travel in our spiritual lives by our encounters with Jesus, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/star7.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2284 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/star7-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/star7-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/star7-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/star7-272x182.jpg 272w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/star7.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>be that the baby in the manger, the teacher on the hillside or the risen Christ on the Emmaus road. We too are called by a royal decree to be his followers and to not only love him but also to love the rest of creation and in particular our neighbours near and far.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Sometimes that is a hard journey for us we feel unprepared, it looks too hard, we don&#8217;t know what we will find on the journey and we do not know how it will change us.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I hope our Advent journey this year has helped to prepare us, the journey may be hard but we will reach our destination and we will be changed for the better by it. We will become more Christ-like as we spread the love of God as we travel. At the end of our journeys we will come face to face with the King of kings, baby, man, risen Lord, our Saviour.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h3 id=\"v-1\" class=\"verse font-helvetica\">Luke 2: verses 1 &#8211; 5<\/h3>\n<div class=\"verse font-helvetica\"><span class=\"verse-1\">In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census <\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"verse font-helvetica\"><span class=\"verse-1\">sh<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/roadbethlehem.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-2\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2272 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/roadbethlehem-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"339\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/roadbethlehem-300x198.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/roadbethlehem.jpg 678w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 339px) 100vw, 339px\" \/><\/a>ould be taken of the entire Roman world. <\/span> <span class=\"verse-2\"> (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"verse font-helvetica\"><span class=\"verse-3\">And everyone went to their own town to register. <\/span><\/div>\n<div id=\"v-4\" class=\"verse font-helvetica\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"verse font-helvetica\"><span class=\"verse-4\">So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"v-5\" class=\"verse font-helvetica\"><span class=\"verse-5\">He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. <\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<h2>Prayers and Reflection<\/h2>\n<h3>Helpful Hymn:<\/h3>\n<p>Hymn: Singing the Faith \u2013\u00a0 \u2013 .Father I place into your hands.<\/p>\n<h3>Contemplation saying.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201c\u2026<span id=\"en-NIV-26049\" class=\"text John-1-4\"><span class=\"verse-3\">And everyone went<\/span>&#8230;<\/span>\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>Let us pray together.<\/h3>\n<h3>Contemplative Prayer.<\/h3>\n<p>Think of the saying in order to understand context and meaning,<\/p>\n<p>Feel the meaning of the saying with and in your heart,<\/p>\n<p>Pray, using the saying, for yourself or others.
