<\/a><\/p>\nJohn 1 v 1 – 18 The Word Became Flesh<\/span><\/h3>\nIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.<\/span> He was with God in the ![\"\"](\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/light2-300x169.jpg\")
<\/a>beginning.<\/span> Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.<\/span> In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.<\/span> The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.<\/span><\/p>\nThere was a man sent from God whose name was John.<\/span> He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.<\/span> He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.<\/span><\/p>\nThe true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.<\/span> He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.<\/span> He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.<\/span> Yet to all who did rece![\"\"](\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/jesus2-300x225.jpg\")
<\/a>ive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God \u2014<\/span> children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband\u2019s will, but born of God.<\/span><\/p>\nThe Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.<\/span><\/p>\n(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, \u201cThis is the one I spoke about when I said, \u2018He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.\u2019\u201d)<\/span> Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.<\/span> For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.<\/span> No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.<\/span><\/p>\nPrayers and Reflection<\/h2>\nHelpful Hymn:<\/h3>\n

<\/a><\/p>\nWe so often feel like fragile candle flames, when we have these feelings, we pray that you will help us to see that as we come together as your church the flame grows brighter. Teach us that in the power of your Holy Spirit we can be strong beacons of light shining more brightly than we possibly could in our own strength.<\/p>\n
Help us to commit ourselves this Advent time that for the rest of our lives we will let your light shine through us in our daily words and actions.<\/p>\n
Father, we thank you, that through our faith, we have the privilege of being children of God. Help us to spread the Good News that Jesus has come to earth and is the source of the light of salvation. Amen.<\/p>\n
