It is not so <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Angel-2.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2130 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Angel-2-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Angel-2-300x187.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Angel-2.jpg 686w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>long ago, in our own country, that unmarried mothers would have faced being locked away as insane or forced into an institution where unspeakable things would happen to them and their babies.<\/p>\n<p>Mary also faced real dangers of alienation, destitution and even death, yet she responds quickly and positively to God&#8217;s call. She is indeed an example of a faithful servant.<\/p>\n<p>Her decision to follow the will of God was life changing for both her and for the world.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/heart.png\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2131 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/heart-300x272.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"211\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/heart-300x272.png 300w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/heart-768x697.png 768w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/heart-1024x929.png 1024w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/heart.png 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 211px) 100vw, 211px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As we hurry through the season of Advent we look for those life changing challenges God offers to us and to those around us. Challenges which we may see as too difficult, inconvienient, dangerous to our status quo or just plain scary and we remember that you are the one who calls us, you are the one who equips us and you are the one who holds us in your arms of love, every moment of our lives. Let us be happy and joyful as we throw ourselves into your service this Advent time.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>A Reflection I wrote on Mary from the Hatfield Road carol service in 2015.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I often wonder about Mary and her visit from an Angel.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/angelqd.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-2\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2126 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/angelqd.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"201\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDid he come as a man? So as not to scare!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">As a light? In a blaze of heavenly glory.<br \/>\nIn the fire? As God appeared to Moses in the bush.<br \/>\nAs a drop of water? In the presence of an angel.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Surprised perhaps but not afraid.<br \/>\nPrepared to listen, hear, obey.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Ready to follow where God called her.<br \/>\nChange her life in every way.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Would I do the same? If he called me today.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Would you do the same? The virgin\u2019s name was Mary.<\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-24922\" class=\"text Luke-1-28\">The angel went to her and said, \u201cGreetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24923\" class=\"text Luke-1-29\">Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.<\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-24924\" class=\"text Luke-1-30\">But the angel said to her, \u201cDo not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.<\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-24925\" class=\"text Luke-1-31\">You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.<\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-24926\" class=\"text Luke-1-32\">He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his fat<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/annunciation1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-5\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2124 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/annunciation1-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/annunciation1-199x300.jpg 199w, http:\/\/www.hatfieldroadmethodist.org\/wptest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/annunciation1.jpg 477w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a>her David,<\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-24927\" class=\"text Luke-1-33\">and he will reign over Jacob\u2019s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24928\" class=\"text Luke-1-34\">\u201cHow will this be,\u201d Mary asked the angel, \u201csince I am a virgin?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24929\" class=\"text Luke-1-35\">The angel answered, \u201cThe Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.<\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-24930\" class=\"text Luke-1-36\">Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.<\/span> <span id=\"en-NIV-24931\" class=\"text Luke-1-37\">For no word from God will ever fail.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24932\" class=\"text Luke-1-38\">\u201cI am the Lord\u2019s servant,\u201d Mary answered. \u201cMay your word to me be fulfilled.\u201d Then the angel left her.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Prayers and Reflection<\/h2>\n<h3>Helpful Hymn:<\/h3>\n<p>Hymn: Singing the Faith \u2013\u00a0 \u2013 The angel Gabriel from heaven came.<\/p>\n<h3>Contemplation saying.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201c\u2026<span id=\"en-NIV-30491\" class=\"text 2Pet-1-11\"><span id=\"en-NIV-24924\" class=\"text Luke-1-30\">Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.<\/span><\/span>\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>Let us pray together.<\/h3>\n<h3>Contemplative Prayer.<\/h3>\n<p>Think of the saying in order to understand context and meaning,<\/p>\n<p>Feel the meaning of the saying with and in your heart,<\/p>\n<p>Pray, using the saying, for yourself or others. With only a name and without explaining the reasons or pre-defining any answers.<\/p>\n<p>Listen for God\u2019s voice in the quiet of your prayers.<\/p>\n<p>Pray using your own prayers or one of those which have been prepared below.<\/p>\n<h3>Twitter Prayer<\/h3>\n<p>Lord, help me like Mary to listen to your voice and respond in joy with a resounding Yes!
