Lent Challenges – Week Four
Lent brings Challenge
Emma, our children’s and families worker, has suggested that we all might like to take up some new challenges for the season of Lent. She writes….
We have all been challenged this year, living with restrictions and lockdowns. Many of us have been spending more time in front of screens and we may just be a bit tired of it all. With this in mind, I thought I would do something a bit different during Lent and I invite you all, young and old to join me.
- Following the ‘Change Begins Family Lent Resources’ produced by All We Can. The resource has some thought provoking content and different activities which you can do as a family. You can find the material below:
- Each week we will add a list of 7 challenges you may like to do over Lent. You can do all of them or choose one or two.
Week 1
- Leave food out for the birds in your garden or go to the park and feed the ducks
- Do something kind for a neighbour or write a letter/draw a picture to send to someone from the church
- Do something to help around the house
- Play a game as a family
- Think of something to give up or take on during Lent
- Build a model of your house or draw a picture of your street
- Learn verses Mark 12:30-31 off by heart

Week 2
- Learn Jeremiah 29:11 off by heart and if you want record yourselves reciting it and send in your videos
- Go for a walk and take photos of the beauty you see
- Start a prayer journal or write a list of things you are praying for at the moment
- Watch a film together as a family
- Do the washing up for a day
- Build a model/draw a picture of a mode of transport you use regularly
- Write a letter/draw a picture to send to a friend or someone you know who lives on their own.
Week 3
- Learn Isaiah 43:18-19 off by heart and if you want record yourselves reciting it and send in your videos
- Build a bike out of recycled materials
- Colour in the page in the middle of the Change Begins Family Packs produced by All We Can
- Bake or cook something together with ingredient(s) which have been fairly traded
- Create a Fairtrade farm in a Shoe Box (ideas can be found at OneDrive for Business (sharepoint.com)
- Do something to help around the house
- Phone/have a chat with someone you haven’t seen or spoken to for a while.
Week 4:
- Build a den/fort out of blankets
- create a card for Mother’s day
- Write a list/draw a poster of what you are grateful for
- Do something to make a friend smile
- Make someone a hot drink of their choosing
- Offer to help someone at school, home etc
- Do something to save energy
