The Methodist Conference – 2020
From: Jill Baker, Chair of the Methodist Council
As you probably know, the Methodist Conference opens this week – it will be meeting almost entirely by video-conferencing (just 6 people – suitably spaced out – will be at Cliff College). This is the first time the Conference has not met physically since John Wesley held his first Conference in 1744!
More information about the Conference can be found at https://www.methodist.org.uk/about-us/the-methodist-conference/conference-2020/
where there is also a link to the Conference Live Stream where the main sessions can be watched.
Some highlights you might like to look out for are:
- Friday 26th June: 11.00 am – 12.00 pm Closing worship of the Presbyteral session including the Calling of the roll – this is the service for the relatives and friends of all those who have died in the past 12 months.
- Saturday 27th 2:15pm: The Opening of Conference, which will include the induction of the new President, Rev. Richard Teal and Vice-President, Mrs. Carolyn Lawrence.
- Saturday 27th 6pm: The Reception into Full Connexion of the ordinands (whose ordinations have been indefinitely postponed).
- Monday 29th – Wednesday 1st July: 9.30 am – 12.30 pm Conference Business
Various electronic ‘fringe’ meetings are also taking place; more details at https://www.methodist.org.uk/about-us/the-methodist-conference/conference-2020/fringe-events/
In particular I draw your attention to The Methodist Conference Carnival, with All We Can and special guests! on Saturday 27th from 11:30am – 12:30pm.
‘Register at allwecan.org.uk/conference to receive a special gift from All We Can and kick Methodist Conference off with an upbeat party atmosphere, from the comfort of your own home!’
Do please pray for the work and officers of the Conference in these particularly challenging times.
