Thinking Lunch – 7th November – Marlborough Road
Thursday 7th November at Marlborough Road Methodist Church,
when Stephen Poxon will be talking on
‘Is God a football fan?’
Stephen Poxon Biography:
Born in Isleworth in 1965 and raised in a Salvation Army household – first attended a Salvation Army meeting as an embryo!
Stephen is one of five children and was educated at St. Andrew’s Bible College, North Yorkshire, William Booth Memorial College, London, & Wycliffe Hall, a private college of the University of Oxford.
Worked for 18 years as a Salvation Army Officer, including two years as Editor of ‘Salvationist’ magazine.
Nowadays working freelance as a writer, writing various articles for different magazines, and books with Lion Hudson/Monarch.
To date, the published books are as follows:
‘Through the Year with William Booth’
‘Through the Year with Catherine Booth’
‘Through the Year with John Wesley’
‘Through the Year with Charles Wesley’
& ‘At the Master’s Side’.
Lion Hudson are publishing two more of my books in 2020, namely:
‘Through the Year with John Newton’
& ‘Through the Year with the Pilgrim Fathers’ (commemorating the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the ‘Mayflower’ in 1620).
Married to Heather, with two adult children, one of whom is about to start her first job as a school teacher, specialising in paediatric psychology, and the other of whom is presently studying Chemistry at Warwick University.
A great fan of ‘Columbo’ and Channel 5USA on TV, and a devoted follower of Manchester City Football Club & Hartlepool United Football Club, with an interest in St. Albans City FC too.
Interests include reading (especially biographies and PG Wodehouse), eating curry, and public speaking. In his writing, he particularly loves “resurrecting” the lives of great Christian figures of centuries gone by.
Stephen’s big ambition – as yet unfulfilled – is to write a play for BBC Radio Four!
Stephen worships at The Salvation Army in St. Albans, and preaches around the Methodist Circuit.
The talk is at Marlborough Road Methodist Church, Marlborough Road, St Albans AL1 3XQ
12.30pm to 1.30pm, drinks are provided but please bring your own sandwiches!
Donations to cover expenses and any profits will be given to The Salvation Army (St. Albans City Corps).
